ALBURY (South Canterbury).
A'bury, July 4.— Our school committee shows considerable energy 111 forwarding the best interests of tha school. A concert and dance is to tr.ke place on August 7, the proceeds to bs devoted to effecting some necessary improvement?. A supply of trees has been ordered, and arrangements made for planting them on Arbor Day. A night class has been established, and efforts are to be made to obtain a subady under " The Manual and Technical Instruction Act, 1900." The Education Board declined to supply some simple gymnastic apparatus, but the boaid is to b5 sgain approached with a view of getting this deci°ion reconsidered.
Board of Education.— Mr J. S. Rutherford, of Op?\va, has consented to bo nominated for one of flic vacancies on the South Canterbury Board 01 Education. As Mr Rutherford has been generous both with his money and h;s time in forwarding the best interests of education iv this dutrict, it is certain that ho wiil have very hearty support, and will be by no mea"s lowest on the pol!. The election takc3 place oa Monday, Ju'y 27. Mr Rutherford was nominated by Mr James Au.«tin and Mr Donald Stewart, of Aibuiy.
Collie Dog Club— The A'bnry Collie Dog Club h»'d a meeting at the Railway Hotel after the sale on the 29th ult. TheTO was a good attendance of member. The financial statement of the club allowed that deportment of its affans to be thoroughly sound. The sper ial prize for the dog winnirg most points at the recnt trial was allocated to Mr Andrew Mactiei's Scot. Arrangement's were made for holding the annual meeting and for passing account-'.
C'^-op^rativp Thr"s'iing.— A meeting was hold on Monday last, 111 tho Railway llotcl, to consider some proposftU for the formation of a co-ouerative company to do the threshing for the farmers of the Albury-Te Xgawai district. There v. aa a lai,;e attendance Mr Edgar Jones, of Mcur>t Messing Station, was voted to the chair, ar.d he called upon Mr Jame» Annan to address the meeting. The proposal submitted was that a limited liability company should ba foimcd of 20 shareholders, each to apply for one share of XSO each, making a total' paid-up capital cf £1000. The application for a shaie is to he accompanied by £1, and an allotment call of £15 is to be made, the remaining capital to be uncalled, as sufficient will then be in hand to finance an rp-to-date plant. The boundaries of the district v/f-re thrrro uglily defined. A committee consixting of Meiers F. H. Smith, J. Annan, Thos. Simpson, and J. Hart was appointed to fix up sonic preliminaries connected with bringing the company into existence.
