CALL TO WELLINGTON.

INVERCARGILL, July 6.

A meeting of the First Church congregation was held this evening to consider a call addressed to the Rev. J. Gibson Smith from St. Andrew's congregation, Wellington. Tho Rev. G. Lindsay presided. After an explanation of tho circumstances wl.ich led to the call the following resolution was adopted:— " That the congregation, having heard Mr Smith's statement •with reference to the call, reluotantly and with deep regret acquiesce in his proposed translation to Wellington." Various members of this congregation expressed their very high appreciation of Mr Smith's services to the congregation, and regret at thi» projected departure, and representatives were appointed to appear before the presbytery, which meets to-morrow, with reference to the call. The Rev. James Cumin ing, of Wai kiwi, was recommended to the presbytery aa moderator during the vacancy.
