HARRIERS
The Dunedin Harriers held their Four-mile Cross-country Handicap from The Clifis, St. Clair, on Saturday undar very favourable circumstances. Tlie weather was all that could be desired, and the country chosen for the course was splendid harrier ground. Tho course wa9 well flagged out, a tedious and tiresome job (for which Messrs Hooper and Burk deserve great thanks), and competitors, on. finishing half tbe distance, received a ticket, which had to be presented to the judges at the finishing posf. Eighteen men faced the starter, and tho following is the result of tho race. — A. Every, 3mm 15scc 1 H. Burli, scratch 2 N. Jeffries, 4min, .. .> .. ..3 H. Murray, scratch .. .. .. 4 P. Israel, 3min 45seo 5 Every, who ran exceeding well, finished very strong, and had a little to spaar-a-'from Burfc, who, from scratch, rtui a. fine ra.ee in 26min ISsec. Jeffries and Murray had a great go for tlurd place, Jeffries just pushing m front of Murray in the last couple of yards. Israel, wAo finished fifth, was not ?a.r" behind, and secures the special prize given to the first unplaced novice home. The cour&o was very reaxly level all the way, with the exception of a big gully near the halfway house. To Mr E. B. Cargill the club's thanks are due for the kind manner in which he placed a. dressing room at the disposal of competi'ors, and for the light refreshments so kindly provided. Messrs MuskM-, Divers, Spence, and Brady were the officials for the afternoon, and managed things in splendid style.
