The ChrHcLurch Press flu 3 reports on the Canterbury grain market: — " Thore has been ra'lior more wlx-ait offering durintr the week, and Hunter's is a little firmer. There is, however, co littlo business doing that prices are almost nominal. Oats continue to be very quiet, and the general opinion in the trade in that prices must give way *oni-&wl>a,t before any fresh shipping business can b<e done, especially as /supplies can bo
obtained in the south at a cheaper rate than in Canterbury. There is practically nothing offering, and there are no buyers at tihe prices asked by growers." Temuka advices report a good inquiry for prime malting barley, but none is available; feed barley is also said to be in good demand.
The following were the grain and produce shipments from Lyttelton for the week ended Friday last: — For the United Kingdom, 500 sacks oats; for Australia, 2562 sacks oats, 110 sacks bran, 50 bags flour, 1471 sacks potatoes ; coastwise, 184-2 sacks wheat, 1926 sacks oats, 40 sacks bran, ,1438 sacks and 1354- bags flour, 1714 sacks potatoes, 185 sacks sharps. Total shipments— 1842 sacks wheat, 4988 sacks oats, 150 sacks bran, 1438 sacks, 1404 bags flour, 3185 sacks potatoes, 185 racks sharps.
