SHOCKING RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
MANGLED IX THE PRESENCE OF HIS FIANCEE. (Pep. United Press Association.) NELSON, Juno 23. A shocking fatal My occurred at the railway station afc Spring Grove last night. Mr James T. Smith, a Wai-iti settler and a wellknown cricketer and Druid, left the city by tho 4.30 train. He got off at- Spring Grove to speak to his betrothed, but WB3 too long on the station, and tho train moved off. He attempted to jump aboard, but fell under tho platform, a-nd some carriages and fche brake van went over him, mutilating bobh hia lags. The young lady faulted with horror. Mr Smith was taken on the train, ajid carried to Wai-iti, whoro two doctorff amputate*! both legs, but the sufferer died from s4iock. Ho was wo!l known, and highly respected.
