SOUTHLAND LAND BOARD.
The ordinary meeting, held on Thursday, April 9, was attended by the Commissioner (Mr J. Hay), and Messrs John M'lntyre, A. K.inioss and lion. A. Bildey, M.L C.
The Hon. A- Baldey was granted six weeks' leave of absence to join in the parliamentary trip to the Pacific Islands.
It was decided that the reserve at town of Dacre, blocks I, 11, and XIV, be offered at auction at an upset of £5 pei annum for a tej'm of nine years, commencing July 1, 1903.
The application of S. Clark for grazing license over allotment 4a part of sa, Glenham, was declined and the Commissioner was appointed to deal with the land.
The offer of H. Massey of £15 for timber on abandoned sawmill areas Nos. 249, 333, and 343 was accepted.
The N.Z. Pine Compauy wrote abandoning the following sawmill areas, and asked, for protection oi tramw&js:.— 363 and 356 Mabel Bufife,
401 Spar Bush, and 181 and 181 a, block 111, Oteramika, also all holdings in the Waikawa Bush. — Accepted, and protection granted for tramways and sawmill site.
The license n-er sawmill site 299, Longwood, for an extended term of two years was granted.
The Receiver of Land Revenue- reported that five licensees of runs at Hokonui, Mason (Stewart Island) and To Anaa were in arrear with rents.— A fine of 10 per cent, on amounts due to be inflicted.
The following applications were granted : — William Williams, sections 36 to 3S, block VI, Campbelitown Hundred ; John Rogerson, section 12, block 11, Slopedown; and A. Davidson, section 73, block VIII, Winton Hundred. An application for section 22, block VIII, Campbelitown Hundred, was cancelled, the deposit not having been paid.
The following transfers were approved: — Pastoral runs 6 and 420 a Eyreside, and Lake County, from D. M'Leod to K. M'Leod; sec-t!ons-67, 70, «nd 75, block XXII, Tisbury, -J). JE. Jphnston to *G. F." Styles ;' section 48, blb'ck V, Longwood, V. S., W. Watson to Ben Ward; section 14, block 11, Lillburn, Johanna Cosgrig to E. Cosgriff; section 62, block VIII, Winton Hundred, H. Hammond' to H. Hammond, jun. (subject to ranger's report) ; and sections 17 and 18, block IV aud XXV, 28 to 3&, block V, Longwood, G. F. Pearc to William Fryer.
It was decided that a copy of the petition and of the schedule of losses of stock through t the severe storms of September and October last, stated to have been sustained by Crown tenants holding pastoral and small grazing xuns, be submitter for the favourable consideration "of the Minister for Lands, as to whether or not he considers inadvisable to amend "The Crown Tenants- Eebate Aofc 1900," so as to allow relief to each tenant ; also that a schedule of lessees on occupation with right of purchase and lease-in-perpetuity who have made similar claims on account of loss by said storms be forwarded for the information of the Minister.
