OBITUARY.
The death is reported of Mr S. Chant, of Waitahuna Gully. Deceased, who was a r.ativ© of Tasmania, had been in this colony since I£6l, and was 68 years of age. He was well liked by all who knew him, and leaves behind him a wife, four sons, and- , three daughters. The death is reported of Mr Hector I Munro, of Oamaru, who has been, identified j with that town since 1859. The death is also j announced of Mr Alexander Marshall, at ' the age of 84 years.
Captain Sutter, a. very old Timaruite, died on. Monday night. He had been ill foi some time. He was closely identified with the progress of Timaru. He was an ex-member of the House of Representatives, Harbour Board, Borough Council (Mayor for some years), and chairman of the Gas Company. Ho was 84 years of age.
During February last 3157 persons arrived in the colony, and 1843 took their departure respectively. The figures for Februai'y, 1902, were 2155 arrivals and 2955 departures*
At present 600 co-operative workmen are employed on the North Island Trunk railway, ou the left bank of the Wanganui River, and work is being pushed on vigorously. On Monday last a start wae made with the erection of the railway bridge over the Wanganui River at Taumaranui. The work will take at least two years to com»letf.
