WAITHMO COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the "Waihemo County Council wa3 held at Palmerston on Saturday, when there were present— The Chairman (Mr Magnus Isbister), Crs J. Ross, T. Muis, D. PhiUp, G. Clark, J. Ross, R. Cameron, and R. Matheson. inspector's bepobt. The Inst>ec*or (Mr G. Cruickshank) reported with regard to G-rsen Valley Riding that he had visited the road past Lee s property. The road had been originally formed by the Waihemo Road BoaTd, and it was now deeply rutted by Btorm water from a lagoon on Mr Lee's property. He had given notice for the stoppage of tho water flow. The water did not impede traffic in any way, but the soil was light and drifted when opened up. In Macraes Riding Beugie's contract was finished. He (the inspector) had formed the road where gravel was to be laid. Another 150 cubic yards of metal was required for the road.— The report was received and adopted. COEEESPONDEXCE. The Receiver of Land Revenue forwarded voucher for the sum of £65 4s, being " thirds " and " fourths " accrued during the period between October 7, 1902, and January 3, 1903.— Received. The Treasury Department forwarded a voucher for £1 14s, being fees, fines, penalties, etc., collected at the Warden's Court, Naseby.— Received. The Department of Roads wrote stating that it had received the specifications for the proposed Dunback-Swinbarn road works, but the authority for expending the vote had not been issued. As soon as tha.t was done the specifics tions would be examined; and the same applied to the specifications for the Bushy traffic bridge. — Received. Tho Chief Engineer of Roads WTote, on behalf of the Hon. the Minister of Lands, acknowledging receipt of the council's letter asking that the authority for the balance of the vote for work on Shag River traffic bridge might be issued to tho council, and stating, in reply, that an authority for £H9 18s 5d was now issued. — Received and approved. The Union Bank o£ Australasia forwarded a cheque for £19 9s 6d being unclaimed money lying, to the credit o£ the Shag Valley Road Committee.— Received. The Government Valuer forwarded notice that the council's property, paTt section 11, and sections 10 to 15, block 111, MoeTaki, of an area of 2 acres 2 roods 23 poles, had been assessed at a capital value of £24. — Received. GENERAL. Accounts amounting to £203 9s lOd were passed for payment. The following tenders were accepted : —One mile and a-half formation and gravel, Goodwood Village Settlement— Thomas Houston, at £98 ss ; 120 chains formation and gravel, Stoneburn road, Dunback— Peter Lunan, £157 Is 8d ; two miles and a-half formation, Dunback and Macraes road— W. Peddie, £257 6s 8d; 400 yds gravel, Macraes to Hyde road— Alexander Trotter, at £40. It was decided to call fresh tenders for one mile and a-half gravelling on Puketapu Settlement road, Bushy, and for the rebuilding of culvert and re-forming road at Shag Point, no tenders having been received ior these works. Tho attention of the inspector was drawn, by Cr Philp, to- the state of Moir's bridge at Dunback, and the inspector stated that he would inspect the bridge shortly. Some discussion took place regarding noxious -needs, it being stated that householders and others were in the habit of casting weeds and refus-6 on the roadway and into watercourses, and it was decided that the inspector should be instructed tc warn anyone he noticed adopting this practice.-
The pension o£ James Duncan, of Balclutha, was cancelled by Mr Cruickahank, 3.M., on Friday, on the ground of intemperate habits. It was for the full amount (£18), and had been granted by Mr Stratford four weeks ago. An application by the registrar to hare Jane Duncan's certificate cancelled on the same ground was dismssed.
