GORE AUTUMN MEETING. (By Oub Special Repoeteb.) First Day— Tcjesday, Mahch 17. Tht>''veatner was extremely cold and showery for the *>penmg day of the Gore Racing Club's autumn .meeting, and there was only a moderate attendance. 'Xhe track was heavy and the going greasy. The majority of the races were won easily. In the St. Patrick's Handicap a protest was lodged against Red Ronald lor interference by the owner of Cherrystone. When Cherrystone challenged Red Ronald in the run home the latter swerved, under punishment, and carried the mar* to the outside of the track. The interference was apparently unintentional, and did not seriously affect the result. At the conclusion of the programme the final heat of the Gore Trotting Cup, which had been ordered to be rerun, was run off, and St. George, who won on the first occasion, was withdrawn, as were Lcxy and Boldrewood. Fichu won easily from .Baxter, who was showing pace at the end after beginning badly. During the day the sum: of £1564 (which is exclusive of the amount handled on the final heat of the Gore Trotting Cup) was put through the machine, which was a shrinkage of £922 on last year's total. Turning into the back stretch Pellett went on from Sirius and Victor, and a little later Ardnarff passed the two lastnamed. Rncing round the far bend Victor was beaten, and Ardnarff had closed on Peilett and soon had her in trouble. Insido the distance Ardnarff had to be shaken up to keep clear of Sirius, but the Fitzherculcs gelding won comfortably by two lengths, while Pellett was three lengths off, third. Four furlongs from home Southerly Buster strode past the other two, and. although he pecked badly in landing over the last fence, won easily by four lengths from Dartmoor, who defeated Waikaia for second money by a short head after a punishing finish between the pair. From the start Red Ronald piloted the" others to the turn for home, where he was leading by three lengths. Inside the distance Cherrystone challenged the leader, nod Red Ronald, boring out, finished undez the judge's box and defeats* Cherrystone by half a length ; Off Chance a poor third. Turning into the Lack stretch the latter moved up to Sirius, and, going jound the far turn, was showing a clear length of the Dreadnought gelding. Bain's Waikaia 2 Waikaia made play from the start, and led his opponent by about five lengths until racing to the last fence, when Southerly Buster closed up. After landing ovar the last obstacle Southerly Buster waa just behind Waikaia, and the latter carried the other out, but in the last few strides Southerly Buster had Waikaia's measure, and won with' something to spare by a short neck.
