ANNUAL SALE OF SURPLUS SHEEP AT CLIFTON STATION.

Messrs Dalgety and Company (Limited) and Stronach Bros, and Morris report having held at Clifton Station on Thursday, the 19th inst., the annual sale of surplus sheep on account of Messrs W. and T. Tclford. This annual fixtun was. as usual, very well attended by both farmers from the surrounding districts and by buyers from Oamaru, Peninsula, Taieri, and Milton. That Clifton-bred sheep have proved themselves to be of sound constitution and good doers is evidenced by the fact that year after year the same buyers are found at the sale competing for the lines they are accustomed to buy. The sale was commenced immediately after the buyers, conveyed by drags from Balclutha railway station, had partaken of the substantial lunch provided by Messrs Telford, and under good competition every lot found buyers at full market rates. The whole of the sheep were in first-class condition, and drafted in such a manner as to secure the commendation of buyers. The fat wethers and breeding ewes were the linet whicE excited most interest. The former were a lot of really grand heavyweight sheap. and were secured by Messrs Thomas Smith and Co., of South Dunedin. The ewes were also large-framed, and by their healthy appearance and good breeding it is to be judged that they must prora a profitable investment to the purchasers. The top lot wag secured by Mr John Finch, of Milburn ; while the balance were taken by Mr John Henderson, of Wyllie's Crossing, and other Taieri graziers. The following are the prices realised:— sso fat wethers, 17s; 304 full-mouthed crossbred ewes, 13s sd; 484 full-mouthed crossbred ewes, 12s ad:. 196. halfbied <&*«*, lla Mdi SK iw^-tftolii
