FREE SECONDARY EDUCATION.
INVERCARGILL, December 24. At a meeting of the Southland High School Board this afternoon it was decided to accept the proposal of the Education. Department that the High School should be open free to every pupil who passed th"' Sixth Standard under 14 years of age, 'the department paying to the board a bonus of £6 per pupil.
A hurricane lias ewept over Diamante, a port on the River Rios, Buenos Ayres. About 100 houses -were destroyed and some 15 persons were killed. Several ships wer«r jsunk.
