WAIKARI RIFLES v.SYDENHAM RIFLES.

A match, which is looked upon now as an annual fixture, was fired between the above companies on Christmas Day at Hollyxood renge. Conditions: 10 men a-side, seven shots, with optional- sighters, at ranges 200, 300, and 500 yards, and resulted- in a win for the local corps. In justice to the Sydenham men it should be stated that they only arrived by the 0 o'clock train, after travelling all night, and could notf bs expected to be in good shooting form. In addition to this the Christchurch corp3 have not the same facilities for practice as the Otago men, the range only being available at long intervals, and several of the Sydenliam good shots were unable to get away. At the conclusion of the .match Colour-sergeant Wilson ithanksd the visitors for the "very friendly manner in which they had fired the match, and. expressed regret: that towing to tne Department having declined to grant passes the Wakari men would hot be able to visit Christchurch this season. He trusted, however, that the two teams would meet again on a future occasion, and Sergeant Knight thanked the Wakari Bine-? for the hospitality they had always shown his men, and stated that it would be a great disappointment to hie corps to hear that the Wakari men would not visit Christcburcb. His corp3 had gone to a good deal of trouble to arrange for entertaining them at New Year time, making sure that the Wakari men would be with them as in former years. However, he trusted that arrangements would -be made in future to allow of corps from one district visiting another. Cheers were th*n given for Lieutenant Brydone, Cclour-sergear.t ; Wilson (Wakari) and the Sydenham Rifles. - The following are the scores • — Wakari Rifles.
