December 17. At the tallow auctions 660 casks were offered and 226 sold; prices are unchanged. Copper : Spot, £50 8s 9d ; three months, £50 16s 3d. Tin: Spot, £117 7s 6d; three months, £117 15s. Lead, £10 17s 6d. December 19. The Bank of England returns show the stock of gold, coin, etc., to be £29,140,000, and the reserve £20,524,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 44.09. The notes in circulation total £28,800,000, public deposits £9,764,000, other deposits £36,654,000, Government securities £16,109,000, and other securities £27,647,000. The wheat markets are firm, except France, where the weather is mild. Cargoes are steady. Californian August shipment, 31s 3d ; December and January, 30s 9d.
