OUR ILLUSTRATIONS.
1. " Sunrise After a Stormy Night." — The lowering sky full of storm and moisture, the huge inrushing wave, and the nearer rocks mirrored in wet sand, form .a tout ensemble which may be seen a hundred times a year, in almost any part of our wild coast, and the truth of Mr Drummond's delineation will be apparent to every close observer. The storm is over for the time, and the sunrise brings promise of a fine day. The gulls rise screaming in the air, and pursue their strong-winged flight along the shore in search of stranded fish and other dainty morsels. The artist goes home to breakfast well pleased with his sketch. 2. " A Summer Day, Whangarei Harbour." — A stretch of land and water pleasantly intermingled. Over all the soft haze of summer, and a delightful suggestion of holiday hours, rest, sunshine, soft breezes, and the dolce far niente generally. To lie on that hillside and watch the artist paint would surely leave nothing to be desired.
