MRS. FIELD.
This lady is the late Mr Hodgkins's eldest daughter,, and both she and her sister, Miss F. Hodgkins, have inherited their father's talent. At first it appeared asif the elder sister would devote her life to this work, but her marriage, and consequent change of sphere, has altered this ; and though she still paints, it is rather as a hobby, and for the amusement of spare hours, than with the serious attention that art claims from its devotees. Like her father, Mrs Field divides her forces; but, also like him, her work is very fine, the colouring pure and clear, and the compositions original and striking. Her pictures are few in number, always command a ready sale, and are always very highly appreciated by those who can best understand their merits ; but, here again, the work does not reproduce well, much of its charm being lost in the mechanical work of the photographer.
