ELECTION EXPENSES.
Mr H. D. Bedford, M.H.R., has lodged with the returning officer (Mr W. G. P. O'Callaghan) a certified return of his expenses in connection with the recent parliamentary election. His total expenses came to £157 18s sd. - The principal items are : £78 3s; halls, £31 17s 2d; committee rooms," £16 6s; printing, £13 15s 3d ; and caretaker for central committee rooms, £12 12s. Mr Chisholm's return of expenses has also been lodged. These total £102 7s 4d, mad© up as follows: — Committee rooms and halls, £39 17s 10d', advertising, £23 6s 6d; printing, £11; clerical work, £25 10s; stationery, £2 13s.
The opening of the new classrooms at the Hawera District High School is being celebrated by an industrial exhibition. The cost of the rooms is £2400, and the school is now one of the largest and mos complete in the Wanganui district.
