WAIKAKA VALLEY.

December 20. — The chief topic since the election has been the question as to the ultimate fate of the licensing poll. Ihe cisc, which was opened in the Gore Court on Wednesday last, stands adjourned until after the holidays. As the question is still sub judice, comments on the position of things are not in ord^r, and therefore I refrain from any remarks. As showirg the strength of the prohibition element here, a glance at the results from the local booth are instructive: Continuance 14, no license 72. Public Hall. — A number of our younp people are interesting themselves regarding the possibility of erecting a pubic hall in the district. A move was made about two weeks ago, w^ien a meeting was held for the purpose of considering the matter. Committees were formed to obtain information in regard to the cost, etc. Their reports were to have been in for a. meeting on Tuesday last, but owing to the flooded eondit.on of the river the meeting could not be held. The whole question is new shelved until after ihe hnlidays. A Change.— lt fame, no doubt, as a very unpleasant surprise to most of u« to learn a few days a^o that our esteemed and able minister, the Ttov. J. M. Fraser, wa3 about to leave us. Mr Fra«<=r has been here over two years, and dm ing that period has done much good by his faithful preaching of the Gospel, and by his plain, outspokenne =s on all questions that came under his notice. Mi Fraser will bi much missed, but his removal will be a gain to his new parishioners in Auckland.
