ERUPTIONS AND EARTHQUAKES.
EXTRAORDINARY ACTIVITY. LONDON, November, 20. The Daily Mail states that 1500 buildings and many warehouses at Resht, Kurdistan, were burned, and that 200 persons perished. ROME, November 18. Stromboli is a spectacle of rare magnificence. There is a brilliant glare in the sky, while streams of red lava flow down the mountain slope. A thick rain of hot ashes is falling, with constant detonations. Numbers of dead fish are floating on the surface of the sea. ALGIERS, November 18. A severe earthquake was felt throughout Algeria, accompanied by loud rumblings. NEW YORK, November 19. Two earthquake shocks have been felt in Utah. The authorities doubt whether any part of St. Vincent is beyond range of danger from La Soufriere, which is extending. The area affected is becoming a Sahara. Portion of the Marriauque Valley was devastated. The distress is affecting all northwards. WASHINGTON, November 21. Other volcanoes are becoming threatening in Guatemala. The town of Quezalte-Nango has been deserted. The recent eruption of the volcano near Santa Maria caused the death of 1000 Indians by asphyxia. The district swarms with robbers, who murder and loot. NOUMEA, November 22. A violent earthquake was experienced here. It lasted three seconds, the direction being east to west, and caused great excitement.
