CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES.
CHRISTCHUBCH, November 20. The first of the season's wool sales was held to-day. There was a. large attendance of both local and foreign buyers. The catalogue consisted of 4534 bales, as against 4368 bales for the corresponding sale of last season. There were virtually no large station clips on offer, and superior merino waa conspicuous by its absence. The bulk of the wool, however, came forward in fair to good condition. The sales opened briskly, a much better "tone prevailing in coarse wools than was expected after the unsatisfactory news as to the London wool sales. The following are the quotations: — Greasy merino — medium to good, 71d to 9Jd per lb; inferior, 6Jd to 7i<l; greasy halfbred — superior, 7Jd to 82d; medium, 6id lo 7£d ; inferior, 5d to 6Jd; greasy crossbred — superior, 6d to 6id ; medium, 5d to sid ; inferior, 3d to 4Jd ; greasy longwool — superior, ssd to 6Jd; inferior, 3d to sd; greasy pieces and bellies — good, s*d to 7d; inferior, 2d to 4d ; greasy locks, Id to 3Jd.
