LOVE'S AWAY.
IJot that the sun is dark, It shines to-day, Yet sadly sings the lark, For Love's away_. The warbling tui grieves me now, At twilight gray; His music cannot please, I vow, Since Love's away. The daisies seem the loss to weep— • If weep they may; The stream, forgets to murmur sweet When Love's away. I call those moments back again—* What bliss had they! Or ere the breast had learned in vain For Love to pray. In vain I try to sleep a* night, r I dream all day; Ko flowers nor suns are brigßt ' While Love'a away. I do remember — how can I forget !-• Yon happy day, When thyme and mignonetta All scented lay. Upon our path, how fair Wotild life become if they And Love would come, from wherei They went away I — John Alaclennamt, Te Kohanga, Dunedin, November, 1902.
