GAMES.
LONDON CHAMPIONSHIP.
The following games were played in the final heat of the London Championship Tourney between Messrs Alfred Jordan and Francis Tescheleit. Poi score and notes we (Leeds Mercury) are indebted to Mr Jordan: — Game 6339.—" Double Corner " (22 18 line). Third Game.
(a) If 15 11, Black draws by 10 15, etc. (b) The correct move. ~» Game 6340.—" Double Corner " (22 18 line). Fourth Game.
(a) A peculiar move, but apparently safe enough. (b) Clearing the air. (c) 8 11 seems better, as it secures possession of the centre of the board. (d) This ought to have lost Mr Teschelc I the game. The following seems to draw: —
(c) 20 16 wins easily, ns Mr Joidan would, no doubt, have seen if he hadn't been pressed for time. The test move, however, looks like a win. (f) Compulsory; 24 20 would lose by 19 23.* (g) A lucky escape for Mr Tescheleit. (n) The position is now the same as Game 2 of the International Match Games, 1899. (i) Appears to correct said game; 19 23 loses. (j) 18 14, 17 21, 26 22, etc., and we thuik White should win.—Dr. Ed. Game 6341.—" Denny " (23 19 line). Fifth Game.
(a) Xow into ihe regular " Bristol." (b) Mr Jordan, m a moment of forgetfulness, unintentionally tries a new move. (c) Mr Tescheleit proceeds to " knock spotq " off the innovation. (\>) But the race is not always to the swift. It is probable, although by no means certain, that Mr Tescheleit would have won the game and championship but for his hasty move. Black, however, could still offer a stubborn resistance. Game 6342.—" Denny " (23 10 line). Sixth Game.
(a) Going for the draw. (b) This decided .he heat in Mr Jordan's favour, who i 3 now entitled to the absolute possession of tho London Championship Cup (presented by Mr W. Belcher), having won it the necessary three times.
