OTAGO FARLY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.
A special committee meeting, held in thS office of the association, Stock Exchange Build-* ings, Water street, on Monday, was attended by Mr John Reid (in the chair), Messrs Duke, Adams, Mercer, M'Millan, G. C. Proudfoot (treasurer), L. Langlands (secretary), and Dr Will.
The Secretary reported that a meeting of ladies had been held to consider the proposal of getting up an early settlers carnival andß bazaar in aid of the Building Fund of the association, and that a unanimous vote had been recorded in favour thereof, and an enthusiastic committee and office-bearers appointed.
It was resolved that the winter show time /the first week in June, so as to include tho Prince of Wales's Birthday) be fixed on for the bazaar, and the action of the secretary in bespeaking the Garrison Hall for those dates was approved, and the sesretary was authorised to convey to the ladies the high appreciation of the committee for the prompt and encouragiiig response to the appeal.
Owing to the axles of the main van nbtaohed to the express to the north on Friday becoming heated, the van had to be changed at Temuka.
Tn the South Australian House the othexl day the Gaining Law Bill, designed for the purpose of suppressing city tote shops, was carried through all its stages, with the addition of further restrictive c'-ausps, some of which were copied from the New South Wales law.
