November 17. — We have had very trying: weather here lately— high. Btrong winds that dry up the ground and retard the prowth of grass, but in spite of it all the young crops look healthy, and it they oily got some warmth and moisture they would soon pick up. Tho •owiaa of turnip* is xunr beiut juooeeded with,
and shearing time is just abotit round again, although the weather is very cold for shea-ring yet. School. — Our school was inspected last Tuesday by Mr HenJry, with very satisfactory results.
Need Attention — Those -who live on the flat imist be a long-suffering people. The bridges that are on their road to the siding are in a very broken-down condition and anything but safe.
Telephonic. — We have now got our telephone in course of erection, and another fortnight ought to see it completed. It will be a gTeat boon to this district, and I wmder the people farther up the valley don't agitate and get it extended to theii centre.
Ball. — Our bachelors have come to life again, and treated us to a ball on Friday night last. It was a fine night, and there was a record attendance from far and near, it being the best dance we have had here- for a lo»g- time. The music, which w»? supplied by Mrs Regan and Messrs Miller ar.d Cross, wa3 all that could be desired. Song 9 were given by Mis 9 Gywnne and Messrs Carroll and Stewart. The bachelors were most assiduous- in their attention to their ruestp, who seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly, and were only sorry when dawn appeared and broke up the revels.
Weddings. — Since writing yrm last I have other two marriages to chronicle m our district — viz., Mis<? Stewart, who was married to Mr Hampton, of Gore, and Miss Graham to Mr Morris, of St. Andrew's, so that they both g-o to other districts. Miss Stewart will be mi«sed in her capacity of jr=:anist. but there ou?ht to be plenty of young musicians now to step into her place.
