AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SHOWS.
The_ New Zealand Jersey Cattle-breeders' , Association has been registered under the Unclassified Societies Act, with its head- ' quarters at Palmerston North. ' ' The dairy-farm competitions held under the auspices of the A. and P. Association •were' won by G. F. W. Bottocher, of Rongotea, first; C. Whitehead, of Shannon, . second ; W. A. Walsher, of Kelvin Grove, third. The winner obtained 337 points out - of a possible 500. There is a serious loss among cows in the Waihbu district (Wailcato) this year, and up to the present time the cause of the mortality has not been esta'blisned. During the last few weeks 15,000 sheep for the South African market have been purchased in Hawke'e Bay by Mr. Duncan Cameron, the well-known Canterbury dealer. The Napier Telegraph mentions that the price paid by Mr E. Murphy, Gisborne, for the yearling bull which obtained first prize out of an entry of 19 at the Hawke's Bay 6iiow was 100 guineas.
