ACCLIMATISATION MATTERS. CHRISTCHURCH, September 10.
The Canterbury Acclimatisation Society has decided to ask other societies of a similar character to co-operate in the formation of an Acclimatisation Association, coinpoßed of delegates from all the societies in the colony. It is thought that such an association could hold conferences, discuss matters of common interest, and have approved suggestions passed into law. The Oanterbmy Acclimatisation Society has withdrawn approval of the proposal of the Otago Society to introduce into New Zealand Peking robins, as it is feared that they may become a pest. The council of the Canterbury Society discussed the matter again to-day, and decided that, in view of the lack of information on the subject, it would throw the responsibility for any action taken on the Otago Society.
The Sydney Daily Telegraph says that a mining revival is expected at Mount Hope, the rain having given a sufficient supply of water to allow of operations being proceeded with.
