AUSTRALIA v. LANCASHIRE. LONDON, August 28.

The Lancashire team playing against the Australians is as follows : — Maclaren, Stanning, Garnett, Hollins, Ward, Tylde«ley, Hallows, I'Anscn, Littlewood, ttiiddifre, and Kermode. The weather was fine, and there was » good wicket and a large attendance. Jones, Carter, and Howell were omitted from the Australians. The lntter went in first, and made 138. Lancashire have lost one wicket for 47.

Trumper was caught by Stanning in a few minutes after starting. One. for 10. Duff and Hill carried the total to 27, when the former retired caught and bowled by Littlewood. Noble goi> his leg before in the s-amo over. Three for 27. me pitch proved soft. Darling played forward at Kermode after making 10. Four for 54. Hill and Armstrong got 77 in sight when Hill was bowled by Kermode. Five for 77. Hopkins did not alter the total, being bowled by Kermode's third ball. Armstrong was tempted to play forward to Littlewood, and lost his wicket. Seven for 81. Trumble scored 5, and was then caught by Kermode. Eight for 91. Gregory and Kelly livened matters up a little tor the Australians, and piled up 45 before lunch. On resuming, Kelly was bowled. Nine for 134. Saunders, the "last man, joined Gregory, but Kerlnodp dismissed him for 4.

Rain stopped play for an hour. On resuming Ward added 3, anu was brilliantly caught by Hill low down at square-leg off Armstrong. Two wickets for 55. Tyldesley and Littlewood played out time, the telegraph showing two wickets for 61.

Darling and Trnmper commenced for Australia. The latter lost his wicket playing back to Kermode. One for 13. Hill filled the vacancy. Darling got into double figures, and then skied one to Garnett at long-on. Two for 21. Noble partnered Hill, and both scored equally, when Littlewood clean bowled the Sydneyite. Three for 40. Duff came next. Hill sent one from Kermode back to him. Four for 64. Gregory compiled a dozen, and then gave Radcliffe a catch. Five for 91. Armstrong followed. Duff added auothe-r 3, when Littlewood bowled him. Six for 94. Armstrong and Hopkins just brought the century up, when Hollins caught Armstrong. Trumble contributed a duck. Eight for 100. being caught by Ward in the long-field from a skyer well judged. Nine for 105. Littlewood's next ball closed the innings, without any addition to {he total, amid great excitement. Stanning and Hollins resumed the Lancashire innings. The latter, withi 27 to his credit, was caught by Noble off ■Saunder-i. Six for 93.
