female teacher in full charge has no chance of getting a position as first or second assistant in a city school. If there is an opening for her, ct is an inferior position with a smaller salaiy. On the other hand, if she comes from a school where shv> has been mistress, with a master in charge, -she can take the position of first assistant in a city school. Mus Cameron har. secured the position of mistress in the Strath-Taieri school, where there is a master in charge. Mr Urquhart, relieving teacher, took charge ol the school on Tuesday morning
Weather.— The weather 'ast week' was changeable. The barometer on iiondny morning was sit 28 94, and kept rising all the week lip to Saturday night, when it was up to 29.51. The middle of the week was cold, with S.W. to W. fi'iowvfa nt night. The last two days oi the week were free. At present the barometer is down to 29 43, thprc beius* a cold, rough N.W. wind blowing. The Blua Mountains are well covered with snow, causing the N.W. to W. wind to blow cold. The lowest reading of the thermometer was 35deg at 7 a.m. of the 30th, there being irost that moiniue; , the ir.ghest was 6Cdeg, at noon of tho 31st ult.
