INSPECTORS OF MINES.
During the. recent conference in Wellington of the inspectors of mines it was agreed that a general and gradual improvement had taken place in mining methods and the conditions of working throughout the colony, and continued progress was confidently looked forward to. The question as to tho cuhisableness of consulting with mine managers was brought up nt the conference, and it vat* found that all the inspectors had been in the habit of constantly advising .'•nd consulting with managers ac to the method of working and tho development of mining properties, though for obvious reasons the details of these • onuiltatione, which frequently ha\e i elation to tho piivate affairs of tonipanieg mid owner*, are not ghen in the inspectors' reports.
