Notes from Hokitika. HOKITIKA, August 25.
The Hokitika dredge failed to bottom on the south sido of the river Operations were suspmded last week. Taking advantage of a slight rise in the river the dredge was taken to he north side to-day, where another cut along the original workings will be made.
The Commissioner's Flat dredge is now out of its initial troubles, and is working smoothly. The wash tieated now is reported as carrying a little gold.
The Great Woodstock dredge is working exceedir.gly well, and is gradually getting into better giound. The returns are expected to improve.
The Woodstock Gold Dredging Company has completed arrangements for recommencing operations. The dredge will be taken across a ridge into ground which has been proved to carry gcod gold.
Owing to dissolution of partnership the Totara dredge, near Ross, wig sold by public auction on Saturday, and Teahsed £335, the purchaser being Mr J. W. Maiden, of Foxton, who intends to dismantle her, and use the boilers and engines for a flax mill, to be erected on the south side of the Hokitika River.
The Prince of Wales dredge has not yet commenced operations owing to the non-arrival of some pipes. The company intends enforcing penalties.
