WELLINGTON DEFEATS WAIRARAPA. WELLINGTON, August 24.
The representative match Wellington v. Wairarapa was played on Athletic Park. The weather was cold, and a strong northerly wind swept over the ground, which made passing difficult and kicking merely a, matter of luck. During the first -bpell Wallace scored a try for Wellington. This %v.ta converted by Spencer. No further score was made during the game, the visitors being thus defeated by 5 points to nil. The Wellington team played a poor game, and %vere successfully emulated by their opponents. Packed scrummages and ineffectne back play were the most noticeable features of me match. Prodigious effort 3 were made by the burly vanguard from the country to run 0%-er the city players. They succeeded in doing this in most cases, but showed an utter lack of reason in the subsequent methods of attack, and their back division went all to pieces when combination was necessary. The Wellington back 3 were also a good deal belo%v par, and the forwards were certainly not up to the form of previous yeare.
