A rifle club has been formed in the East Cliatton district, which includes the adjoining dish lets of Cliatton and Knapdale The Invercargill Rowing Club's carnhal leahsed £500 m a week. The money will be devoted to the purchase of new boats and in extending the existing ?hed accommodation.

At the Canterbury Acclimatisation Council a letter was received from Mr L. F. Ayson stating that large numbers of mature trout in the hatcheries in the colony were affected by a disease of the gills and throat. The council decided to call the attention of the Minister to the fact that acclimatisation funds had been spent on erecting huts for anglers at river mouths, and to ask if such expenditure uere legal.

There is now on exhibition on the premi«e> of Mr Edwards, fruiterer. Princes street, a true blackbird, which it liberally applied with white in its plumage. It is well and beautifully marked.
