PRECAUTIONS AGAINST SMALLPOX

WELLINGTON. August 25

The Chief Health Officer lias determined that the colony shall run no risk in connection with the refusal of the authorities at llobart to allow the steamer Wakanui, which has cai board two convalescents from smallpox, to land passengers at that port. The steamer is now on her way to Aurkland with New Zealand and Australian soldiers on board, and the department will try to get her bent on to Wellington, whore everything is in readwiess to meet all contingencies. An inspection of the passengers will be made, and if smallpox is found on board everyone will have to undergo vaccination, and all person-i belonging to other colonies will be sent back.
