Notes from Roxburgh.
(Fkou Our Owh Corresfonbikt.)
ROXBURGH, August 13. The weather here is like summer to-day, and the river is keeping steady.
The Ladysmith Gold Dredging Company washed up for 87oz 18dwt yesterday for five weeks' sluicing.
The Roxburgh Jubilee dredge has not struck bottom yet, and will not be able to go much deeper without lengthening her ladder. The Gold King dredge has been shifted a little higher up her claim, and is opening out. Part of the elevator for the Main Lead Hercules dredge has arrived on the ground.
August 15.
The Lady Roxburgh dredge had, fc^e- misfortune to have the crown wheel break yesterday, which will mean about a week's stoppage until a new one can be got from Dunedin. Al> M'Vicar having resigned the managership of the Teviot dredge iv order to proceed to the West Coast, Mr Mitchell .has been appointed to the vacancy. Tho Coal Creek Flat dredge is away very steadily. There is no change in the wash this week.
The Jubilee dredge is working away steadily, the ground being very deep. /She will not wash up this week, as she has not struck anything rich so fur, and is unable to bottom. The Teviot dredge met with a slight mishap to-day, the buckets getting off the bottom tumbler, which meant about eight hours' lost time.
