SALES OF PUREBRED CLYDESDALE MARES.

Me3sr3 Wright, Stepheii3o:i, ard Co. report the sale on account of Mr Jaaies Patrick (of i»ee Creek Farm, Outrani) of h:s purebred Clydesdale niaro "Lady Macarthur. Lady was foaled m October, 1895, and *r«3 bred by Mr James Drain, of Spar Bush , her sire, Macarthur (imp.); her dam, Maggie, Sy Ivanhoe ; Her granddam BeBS, by Extinguisher (imp.) ; her great grnnd-dam Joan, by l)trnley. Macarthur's she, Macbnde (2957), bred by Mr A. Montgomery, Nethershall Ca6tle Douglas, winner of first prize at Glasgow and JLilmarnock, and numerous first prizes in Victoria. Macarthur's g-sire, Macgregor (1187), pne of the champion breeding stallions in Sectland, and 'full brother to the famous Flashwood. iMacarthur's g-g-sire, Da-rnley (222), the leading breeding etallion of hi 3 day Macarthur'e Jiain, Maggie 8011, winner of 86 first and chamfcion prizes, by Taeruan by Victor, grand-dam Maggie 111, by Pride of Scotland ; g-g-dam &£a°gie, by Cochrane's Clyde; g-g-g-dam Jane, by Dick's Black Champion. Tasinan, the sire of Macarthur's dam, was got by Victor (imp.), Sam Countess, by Count Bismarck (imp ). Macarthur was exhibited 85 times, out of which jje gained 32 firsts and champion prizes, two Seconds, and one third, all as a four-year-old and under-'-a record unbeaten by any horse in the colonies. Lady Macartnur is therefore an Exceedingly weil-bred mare, and should prove A decided acquisition to the stud of her new Dvner, Mr Herbert N. Watson of Pahitahi, tlawke's Bay, to whom she ■naa Eold at a highly iptisfactory figure. The same firm also repori Laving sold on ftccannt of Mr Charles W. Reid, oi li .tiruddery.

Windsor, near Oamaru, a purebred Clydesdale mare, now six years old, to Mr John Coutts, of Jinefield, Palmerston, at a satisfactory price. This mare was bred by Mr John Reid, of Elderslie, her sira be'ng Ilalfield, and her dam Young Maggie Lauder. Ha'field, by Lord Sa.isbuiy (.imp.), dam Eaner<dd 11, hy Young Banker (imp.) g-dam Lauia Matpherson, by •Sir Colin (imp.) ; g-g-dani Jess, by Marquis. Young Maggie Lauder, by Pride of Galloway (imp.), out of Maggie Lauder, by Duncan (ivy; her dam by Lincolnshire Hero.
