PROPOSED VISIT TO IRELAND.
LONDON, August 15. The British Medical Journal states that the King has gone through the trying State functions without the slightest detriment to his health, ihe King is, in fact, quite well. His unofficial visit to the College of Surgeons was intended as a compliment to the surgical profession. He inspected on the same occasion the college's unrivalled collection of specimens connected with perityphilitis. Sir Il'.I I . Treves and Sir F. Laking accompanied the Kiug and Queen to the ro}'al yacht at Cowes yesterday. Sir F. H. Laking accompanies the King to Balmoral.
The Staudard states that it is practically decided that the King will vis-it Ireland late iv the Autumn or in the spring.
August 13.
The Standard states that the King will cruise in his yacht round the coasts of Great Britain. He visits Cork within the next four weeks. It is his intention to make a two months' tour of t^o districts whereof so much was recently heard in Parliament, and take every opportunity to study the state of the Irish peasantry.
The Telegraph states that the gpnrr^l feeling in x>ublin over the King's vi^-itr is one of extreme sati-factiou, and there is a conviction that vis sojourn will bo entirely successful.

The King, replying to the Portsmouth. Corporation's address, said : "On behalf of the Queen and myself I thank you cordially for your congratulations on the Coronation, my recovery from my illness, and the conclusion of peace. I am unfoignodly thankful for the mercies it has pleased Almighty God to vouchsafe us nnd the people, and trust we shall live happily at peace again with all the world, and that the recent rejoicings wherein the whole Empire shared may send us forward, each iv his own station, to work with renewed earnest ness for the maintenance and improvement of our noble neritage and tho accomplishment of ends that become a groat people."
The King laid on the Alberta's deck, in a specially-prepared cutting, a bras-s cross inscribed : '" Hero re c tod the beloved remain's of Queen Victoria on February 1 and '2, 1901."
The King and Queen O-bonie, and, returning to the royal yacht, the King held a naval investiture.
