The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report having held their fortnightly 6ale by auction at the Ot;go Wool and Grain Stoves, lower Raitray street, on Friday, 15th. inst., when there vas a full attendance of buyers, who competed freely for every lot on the long catalogue submitted, an 3it was satisfactory to note that prices--ob-taining were fully up to those mhng at their last sale. Heavy, good-conditioned, well-flayed ox and cow hides were in keeu request. .One lot sold during the day brought jd over last sales (top price of 6£d). Quotations: Heavy ox, 6a to 6Ad , extra prime, 7d ; good to best. 3d to 5Jd , medium, ihd to 4^d , mfeiior ar.-cl light, ,kl to 4}d ; b?bt cow, 4^d to sd ; good to best, 3id to id . lrfenor v.nd hgiit, 2jd to 3Jd; yparlings, .Jd to 4d per lb, calfskins, Is to 2s 9d each.

Messrs Stronach Bros, and Morris report ns frllows —We held cur usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stores on Friday, 15th mst . when the usual attendance of buyers was present We submitted a catalogae of '202 hides audT calfskins, representing all sorts and conditions from well-flayed extra stout ox hides to damaged a.ud iufer.or. For the best cia-ss of hides competition was very keen, as may readily be believed when we state that loi or.c lot of ox hides averaging £l!b b.dding clitl not cease until it had reached the very high figure of 7d per lb, suid at this price the lot was knocked down to Messrs Remshardt and Co. The vandor of these hides was Air AY. Duke, George street, and they reflected great credit on himself and also ou the slaughterman who took them off. In addition to the above we obtained sgd for two iots averaging 751b and 711b, sid, ss, and 5d for several lots ranging from 621b to 711b each. For best cow hides we also got very high prices, one lot bvcragimr C2lb bringing sid, and several other lots from 4Jd to 4Jd. Notwithstanding, however, that prices were so good for bast hides, we regret to report that second-class hides were deddedly easier, in some cases a drop of Jd to gd haMng to be faced. This was most noticeable in cow hides ranging from 451b to, say, 56ib each. We quote actual prices obtained at our sale as follows — Prune ox hides, od to sj!d , extra special, -to Id, good ox h.dcs, 4d to 4^d; hghl ami inferior do, -'Ad to r iid , pr.me cow hides, 4Jd to s\<\ ; good dc. iJjd to 4Jd ; light and inferior do, 2J to 3id , calfskins and yearlings, 8d to -is 3d.
