' At 6 o'clock this evening Lieutenant Calloway, the smallpox patient, was removed from the Orient to Mahauga Bay, where suitable accommodation has been secured! half a mile from any dwelling Surgeonmajor King has gone into the residence afc Mahanga Bay, and Nurge Winton has gone ovsr to nur«e the patient.

SYDNEY, August 12. The Daily Telegraph apologises for tlie cable sent by its Wellington correspondent reCecting on the overcrowding of the Orient. The Orient Company anuoiuice that the reports from the officials on the alleged filthy condition of the vessel are absolutely untrue.

WELLINGTON, August 14
A number of troopers who arrived by the Orient were released from quarantine to-day. The Defence Department is arranging to billet them in town for a few days, and they will go to their homes aa soon; as possible. All have been vaccinated, with good results. The smallpox patient is reported to be doing well, and is likely fco recover. Twenty-nine cases of measles among the Orient's troopers and several cases of colds are still in hospital at Somes InlandAll of the soldiers who arrived by the Orient, except about ball a dozen who are suffering from minor ailirie-nts, have been landed from Somes Island. A number went north to-day, and others will follow to-morrow.

PROGRESS OF THE SICK. WELLINGTON, August 16.
To-day's report on the sick troopers is as fellows:— W. N. Page (Hokianga), N. J. Ward (Blenheim), W. Addas (Auckland), W. (}. Murray (Hokitika), M. Burke (Petone), Hooper, and Johnston are all much, better. E. Percival (Waikato) will be up to-day. J. Newschamp is not quite so well, but there is nothing serious. J. Burke is much better. N. Fitzgerald (Stratford) is convalescent. W. Nicholson (Canterbury) is dangerously ill. J. Limn (Collingwood), who was verybad yesterday, is a little hetter to-day. All tbe above are Britannic patients. The Orient's sick: Lieutenant Johnston, doing; well; D. Kitchen (Mongonui) and F. Rowling (Nelson}, much better; G. A. F. Turner (Wbangareij, developing quinsy, but well urder tht> circumstances ; L. W. Compton (Hastings), doing- well. The wnalipox patient is doing well.
August 17.
About 185 officers and men of the Ninth Contingent who returned by the Orient have tow reported at the quarantine camp at Bottle Lake, and all have been vaccinated. Dr Symes, the health officer, h'aa now decided to discharge those who have been successfully vaccinated previous to last Tuesday, and about 40 will go out to-morrow. The men now appear quite satisfied with the situation, and are very comfortable. AH the invalids are doing well.
