TRADE WITH SOUTH AFRICA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, August 12.
A merchant from Durban who recently visited Kew Zealand complained bitterly to a Wellington business man regarding tho delay in despatching the steamer Sussex to South Africa. He says that, believing the vessel was to leave New Zealand on the 6th July for either Capetown or Durban direct, he purchased a large quantity of potatoes and other prodticts, hoping to be able to land them iv about 25 days. The vessel's departure, however, was delayed until the closing days of last menth, and then she wa3 ordered to load with meat for Australia. Ho does not knew now, he Eays, when she will get there, but he is certain that when she is unloaded most, if not all. of his consignments will be perished. He maintains that the New Zealand Government is doing the mercantile community and the colony an immense amount of harm by its failure to establish a regular steam service, to South Africa.
The Post, which publishes the foregoing, also has a loading article on tho failure of the Government proposals for a South African Etearn eervicp, and aiks what has become of the Blue Star live.
