BURGLARS AT WORK.

AUCKLAND, July 28. On Saturday night burglars entered the premises of Mi' Ca-wkwell, ch6mist, at Newmarket, and removed the safe, which they convoyed to a -lonely spot half a mile "distant. The horse and cart used were taken from the 6tables of Air Kilgour, butcher. The safe ivae found to have been opened with a . cold chisel, and its contents, £10, wore- missing.

A still more daring burglary occurred at C4leenson's Windsor Castle Hotel, Parnell, at 3 o'clock this. " morning. An inmate, wakened by an explosion in the cellar, found three burglars. h.ad obtained entrance, by a trap door, ami dynamited the safe, and got off with-- £9O. The cellar "was then full of smoke from tho explosion*. . 3Che burglars evidently tried to remove the safe, and, failing, they inserted explosives and covered.it with <clay,-''old books', and- goods, then hid Behind- -a partition till the charge, exploded, and grabbed the- bag containing the coin, escaping by the door left open to facilitato their exit. A .horse, cart, and harness belonging to Mr JRobort Dick, of Onehunga. stolen on Friday night, and found subseqiiently in tho street, wcro probably used by tho same gang.

CHRJSTCHURGH, July 28. On Saturday the promises of the West End Cash Grocery Stores, in Cashcl street, were burglariously entered, and £25' was stolen. The thieves are supposed to have mado an entrance through the, front by means of a skeleton key.
