THE WANTS OF MINERS
WELLINGTON, August 2. A joint deputation from the Miners' Unions of Repfton and Blackball and the Otago and Wellington Trades Council interviewed the Aeting-Premi'-r and the Minister of Mines this morning in reference to a number of matters affecting the interests of tho coal ?nd ffolcl minerp. It was mged that the miner be placed again in the position he occupied before Hie pnsping of the Workers' Compensation Act, and that payment of compensation count from the tune of disablement ; that the inspectors of factories act as inp): actors of mines for the enforcement of awards and industrial agreements, and that they adviso the miners a« to their rights; that the ventilation be improved ; that m orking hours count from th« time the miner enter? the mins till he is brought to th** surface; that the county franchise be extended, and that " deputies " ba%e at least fi\e years' experience in underground workings. Tho Ministers replied that the matters would have their careful consideration after taking the advice of their officers.
