OBITUARY.

An old resident of Oauiaru in the person of Mr James Woonton. passed away oii Monday at the age of 84 years. The death is recorded within a few hours of an old married couple who were amongst: the early settlers of Oamaru. Mr Jamea Woonton died on Monday, 28th (aged 84). and his wife died early on the 30th (aged 70). -

A veteran named Alexander Kirk, who served in the -Indian Mutiny and. Crimean war in the 42nd Highlanders, passed away at Hokitika on Monday morning last. He arrived at Dunedin in the sixties, and from^ there went to tho West Coast,, ■where h& had since lived. He leave 3 a grown-up family.

Np\vs has been received of the death of Mr Joseph H. Davcy, v.ell known in Invercargill and Wyndhain. The deceased had been carrying on business as chemist and druggist at Pitfiekl Plain, Victoria, being: the youngest registered chemist in Australia, aud had been studying for the M.D. degree. Death was due to over-study. Ho leaves a young widow and brothers and sit-tcra. and a large circle of friends to mourn: their loss. Tho deceased was only 25 years of age. He wa-% very popular in Wyndham when a boy. When only 20 years of age he took gold, silver, and bronze medal 9 at the Colbge of Pharnjacy. A sister resides in Invercargill.
