OTAGO LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Otago Crown Ltu.ds Board hjld on Wednesday was attended by the Chief Commissioner (.Mr A. Bairon) and Commissioners J. Duncan, W. Dallas, and H. H. Kirkpatrick.
Assistant-Ranger O'XeiU forwarded valuation of improvements on small grazing lun, section 16, "block XI, Table Hill district, and appraised the capital value. —Consideration deferred.
James Kerr wrote in regard to his application for a license lo occupy part of the Mining Reaeive, section 51, block I, Rock and Pillar district.—Refened to Mr Kirkpatuck for report.
Ranger Mackenzie forwarded a report on the application by James Gardner for a lease of the old mill ut Frankton on sections 3 to 7. block XVIII. town of Frankton.— Held over till next meeting.
M. J. Kcliher applied for 100 acres adjoining area at present held by him in Waikeriken Valley, Leaning Rock district. —Declined.
The Bruce County Council forwarded statement of proposed expenditure of " thirds " and
"fourths" for p^r.-oa aOth December, 1901, to 31st March, 1902.— Approved.
A. Shanks wrotp objecting to an application by W. B. Caiins for a license over part of section 2, bock VI, Kurow district, for raising coal or lignite.— Ranger Atkinson forwaided report on the application. — The board, decided to decline the application.
The Uuder-secretary for Lands forwarded a nie-mo. in regard to the unsold 'sections in the town of Waitaki Bridge.— Referred to the ranger for report.
Haggitt Bios, and Brent, on behalf of T. D M'Levie, applied to purchase an area of 10 acres 111 block I, St. Buthans, about one mile from Cambrian». —Referred to the ranger for report.
The Rtcpivei of Land Revenue reported that the following, who«e holdings were declared forfeited, have now paid all arrears — J. T. Gedde." R. L. Gcddes, and James Smith. — The board decided under the circumstances to rescind the forfpituip.

Latest advices from Ceylon state that a movement was on foot to giva some sort of entertainment or gift tc the 5000 Boer prisoners who yhave been in captivity on that island. One suggestion is that each Bwr should receive a gift of 501b of tea — tha various planters contributing according to their acreage under crop. In the Observer the Bosrs are referred to as our departing guests."
