WYNDHAM.
July 21 — I have been longer than usual in writing, for the aimple reason that there was very little to report about. Of course we had our Coronation preparations and subsequent disappointment; but this was general, and nothing more in "Wyndham tlian other places. It is gratifying the gcod reports that we now hear of our Sovereign's recovery, and we nre again looking forward to the Coronation in August. Installation. — The annual installation of officev9 in connection with Huia Lodge, 1.0.0. F., took place in the Oddfellows' Hall on the evening of the 11th. Social. — A conversazione .was held in Zealandia Hall the same evening- in connection ■with the installation. Tliere was a good attendance, and a capital musical programme was gone through by several local musicians, übly O3isted by Misss Johnston and Messrs Wright and Matheson, of Gore. At the close of the programme refreshments were ser\ed, after which the flcor was cleared for dancing. Bios. Traynor and Wilson were M.C.'s, and the music was supplied by Messrs Johnston, Wood, and Mocpherson (violin, cornet, and piano respectively). Concert. — The postponed Coronation, conceit was held in the Zealandia nail on the evening of the 15th. Mr Marsh occupied the chair, and vi a few well-chosen words explained why the concert had been held— to meet expenses which had been incurred during the recent Coronation celebration preparations. The Wyndham Brass Bard was in attendance, an-d. opened the programme with the National Anthem, the audience joining lustily. The programme consisted of the following.— Band selection, pianoforte selection, Miss Richardson; quartet — Miss lioss, Mrs Drumniond, Rev. Mr Wirjgfield, and Mr Drumniond ; song, Mrs Allison ; song, Key. Mr Wingfield ; recitation, Mr J. WVkcr; song, Mi3S Ross; song, Mr J. Smart; violin solo, Mrs Johnston ; song, Mr Drurnniontl; song, Mr Pope; song, Mr Macpherson. .Each and all of the performers acquitted themselves well, aud the various items were -well iec<iived.
Welcome Home Social.— A welcome home social was accorded Trooper Morris in the Seaward Downs School on the evening of Wednesday, thf 16th. Trooper Morris was with the Seventh all through tlieir campaigning, end took part in the memorable engagement a* Bothasberg. He recently returned to his liome at Edendale. Mr Hugh M'Call occupied the chair, and during the evening presented Troopei Morris with a gold albert and pendant suitably inscribed. The following gentlemen delivered addresses, testifying to their pride in their representative in the Seventh :— -The Chairman, Messrs T. W. Foster, R. Wilson, J. Walker, T. Haining, and A. Hall. Trooper Morris «uita-bly responded, and thanked them hearti'.y for their present, v,hich he would ever prize. Several songs ard recitations were given during the evening. A dance was afterwards held, which was well attended. Wyn-dham-Edendale Ploughing Association. — Ihe annual match was held on Friday last in a pa'ldocl: kindly lent for the occasion by Mr J." Cuslmie. The day was very rough, but notwithstanding there was a fair attendance of the public. There weie 11 competitois, and the work done by each man was highly creditable. The usual dinner nas ned in Mrs Blackky's sample room, and waa patTomsed by about 50 gentlemen.
