NORTH OTAGO.
July 28. — There is every prospect of r.n early epring — indeed, there is considerable spring m the grass now, and if the present favourable weather continues during the coming month farmers will have Teason to be thankful. The early sown crop is also looking well. The heavy rain completely soaked the subsoil, a state of affairs that has not occurred for years. Lately I have been Ihrough South Canterbury, and was delighted with the appearance of the early crops. Notwithstanding that in some place 3 paddocks had Leen under water, after the wheat had been sown, there was not much damage done.
Dairying. — The creameries are now tunning about ha-k' time, but on the whole they have had a fairly good season, and farmers must be satisfied with the profits from the dairying indrstry, as numbers of them are increasing their output.
Potato Market. — Farmers who had any quanHy Oi potatoes, and v?ho have Refused much higher rates than now rulingyare wondering if they will get as good a price now or later. I fancy not, as large quantities are still being held, for the yield was better than was thought at one time.
Stock. — The fall in the pi ice of sheep has hit many of our farmers rather severely. There is a marked contrast between prices at the present time and those of last year.
