THE KING'S HEALTH IMPROVING
THE DATE OF THE HOLIDAY.
LONDON, July 21. The original £100,000 proving insufficient for the Coronation, the Supplementary Estimates provide for an additional £25,000. The King continues in _ excellent health, and is gaining in strength. The wound is healing satisfactorily. Tlio King and Queen and members of the Royal Family took part in divine service on board the yacht on Sunday. The King; is unable to be on deck owing to the unfavourable weather. July 22. The Kino; i> well that the Queen, the Prince of Wales, and other royalties visited O<-borne, and upwards of an hour with the royal patient. A deputation of Norfolk Inlanders belonging to the Commonwealth Contingent presented Lord Onslow with an address to the King, conveying congratulations on his recovery. It stated that tney were proud they had been pelpcte.i to attend the Coronation. Lord Onslow replied that he King would bo
glad to know that the small island had borne its &hare in the war, one Norfolk Islander having attained a captaincy and I having been decorated for distinguished conduct. July 24. The King's progress is wniutemiptetl. He is unable yet to leave his couch, but his strength is returning satisfactorily. The British Medical Journal states that the wound in the King caused by the operation is granulating well. Coronation Day has been proclaimed a bank holiday. " MELBOURNE, July 26. Mr Deakin is .sending telegrams to tha several States and to New Zealand in reference to the observance of Coronation Day. The opinion is that it should be observed as a public holiday in the Commonwealth departments, but tho Federal Government intends to have no celebrations of any kind. The State Cabinet has decided not to grant any holiday, .so far as it is concerned. Lieutenant-colonel Robin has received intimation that all tho Volunteer functions andl arrangements made for June 26 are now to take place on Saturday, August 9. As this means that tho Yolunitoer parade, royai salute, and presentation of war medals takes, place on the 9th August, it may be said to practically settle the date on which the holiday is to be observed.
