EDUCA T IONAL STATISTICS.
The quarterly returns of .attendance for the period ended June 30, which have been compiled by the secretary of the Education, Board, show that there were 217 schools in, operation in the district, employing 189 male and 335 female teachers. The number of pupil* on the roll at the beginning of the quarter was 20,006 and at the end of the quarter 20,197, comprising 10,356 boys and 9841 girls. The average attendance was 9122 boys and £640 girls, — making a total of 17,762. being 19 less than the total for the previous quarter, and 163 less than that for the June quarter of 1901.
The average at the city and suburban echools was : — (ieorgo Street, 699 ; Kaikorai, 648; Forbury, 574; High Street, 563; Albany Street, 563; Normal, 556; Arthur Street, 548; Union Street, 521; Caversham, 478 ; Mornington, 417 ; NorthKast Valley, 411; Mar-andrew Road, 403; Kensington, 279; Rnvenobourno, 201; St. Clair, 123; Anderson's Bay. 95: Wakari, 64
Tho attcndancp.s at Oamaru wore: — South Hchool, 376; North. 316; Middle, 235. At the District High Schools.— Port Chalmers, 424; Mosgiel, 267; Balclutha, 260; Lawrence, 255; Tokomairiro, 219; Palmerston, 202"; Naseby, 177; Tapanui, 172; Hampdon, 139 During the quarter the Kaikorai School was reopened, and new schools at Horse Flat and Tapui were, opened.
