On l'huisdav Mi< A. (J Fenwick had a few fiiends to afternoon tea at her residence at St L'lair, to meet Miss (Fenwick fiom C'hristchurc'i, who is now paying her a shoit visit. Amongst those piesent were Mrs (ieorge Fenwick, Mr.i Burnett, Mrs Duncan, Mis Michie, Mrs Morlison, Mrs Maud (Oamaiu). Mi-, Rattray. Mis Ritchie, Mis Sinclair Thomson, the Misses Raltra\, Reynolds, Webster, etc.

On Thuisduy evening the Kia-ora PingPong Club held its last meeting foi the season in the Kia-ora tea looms in Princes street, at which a tournament was played, several members of the club having contributed prizes and suppei for the occasion. The first lady's prize, a handsome silver belt buckle, was won by Mi*s Hislop, and the second, a cut-glass scent bottle, by Mrs Oldham, while the gentlemen'? prizes were : First, a silver-mounted pipe, won by Mr M'Leod, and second, a silver matchbox, by Mr Sleigh. After the prizes were presented Mr K. C. Reynolds made a short speech, in which he thanked the vice-presidents for the able way in which they had woiked for the club and ensured its. success, and at Mr Gully's suggestion they were vocally voted 'jolly trood fellows.' Many legrets were expressed that thU was the last meeting ior the winter. Amongst those present were Mr and Mis CheesemaD. Mr and Mrs Finch. Mr and Mis Moore, Mr and Mi* Oldham, Mr and Mi, X (J. On Fiiday evening Mis- James Mills had a small party at her lesidence, "Mount Lodge.' in Melville street, which finished up w ith a dance. Amongst those present, beside^ Mr and Mis Mills and ;Mis s Mills, were Mr and Mi's (J. Rattiay. the jMisrcs Koyd, De Lautour, Gibson, Macpherson, Reynold*, Sale, Sise. Williams, Worth, Dr Stan'ey Batcheloi, Mes-rs Bmke, Barren, C'air. Lowrie. M'L,pan, Ritchie. Sise, G. Sievwright, J. AVilliani-. L Williams, Dr Williams etc.

On Satuidav afternoon Ali-s Logan gave a very successful "book" tea at her residence, 'Sarnia,' in Roolyn. There were between 40 and 50 present, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent in guessing the names for various badges worn. Most of the titles were cleveily worked out, a noticeable feature being the number of sketches repie&enting the names. Dr Blomh'eld gained the prize for the most original idea — the book chosen by him being " A Sol'tary -Summer 1 ' — which was shown as a prettily drawn sketch of a little boy with a fc'ate adding up a sum. and was iv its way quite a- masterpiece. Miss Sinclair gained the other prize for guessing the gieatest nirnber of books correctly, minibenng 25. Some of the books illustrated were: "The Velvet Glove,'' a pussy cat's claw; ''The Ascent of Man," one of our political leaders climbing the social ladder ; "The One Who Looked On,'' a wallflower; " My Lady Nicotine." a cigarette tied on the coat ; "Robbery Under \rnis," a thief lunning off with his spoil under his aims; "The c-hoir Invisible." a gardener unconsciously rolling a rollei over a cat, which \us almost hidden from view; "Knight ot the White Feathei, " a white feather in buttonhole ; "The Diamond Rose," a hat omament ; "An Ameiiesui Politician,"' Piesident Roosevelt; "Won by Waiting," front low of the stalls, etc. Amongst those piesent were Mrs Adam, Mrs Si.se, Mrs Haggitt, Misses Larnach. Mackellar, Rattiay, Sise, Sinclair. Williams, etc. Tea was served in the dining room, which made a fitting finish to an enjoyable afternoon.

The Boating Club's carnival tai*<-N placf next month. It starts on the 9th August (Coronation Day), find closes on ihe lolli August. All the different committee.-, aro working hard, and everything points to it being a very successful function, both frcm an. enjoyable and a monetary point of view.
