LONDON WOOL SALES.
(Fbou Our Spicial CoHMsrojCßixT.J LONDON, May 30,
BRISK BIDDING : PRICES STRONG. There might have been » "peace boom" on judging by some of the sights witnessed] in the Wool Exchange this week, and while this subject has formed a leading topic ofi conversation, still wool and its purchase has been more to the front than even the much-longed-for settlement of hostilities in Soutb Africa. The 4*olo animation as hitherta mentioned has formed quite a leading feature of this week's sittings, competition being general and very keen for merinos, as alsa for fine crossbreds. Prices of the first-named^ whether for the best or medium qualities, i£ fairly well-grown, ruled exceedingly firm ore the previous highest basis, with an, occasional further change in sellers' favour for tha best grades of merino, both in grease and! scoured. France and Germany have bought again very freely of almost every description, and as some good catalogues have continued! to be submitted, some high times have beem witnessed. The home trade has displayed! as much eagerness as ever, and has secured the lion's share, while Russiai for grease and scoured - and America for greaee havo been anxious to purchase: This has meant the full maintenance ofevery good feature hitherto displ and! nothing has gone -wrong at all, w.. urawals being very, very few.
Crossbreds have presented a very varied and extensive display, no finer show hay- - ing been seen for a long time. Fine qualities, under au increased demand for Confci. nental and partially for America requirements, have maintained prices fully up to the previous highest level, and often exceeding the same. Although the demand for medium descriptions and coarse qualities has been good, and has extended more in thoi' direction of an increased Continental inquiry, with a steady business doing for America, vainest have scarcely maintained previous quotations, but have frequently gone in favour of buyers, though it is almost impossible to quote them as being actually down. These qualities somo days have been easier to secure, the samples offering and in sight causing buyors not to be so keen. Oapea have bc-en in fair supply, the bulk consisting of grease. These, together with fleecewa^hetl, have well kept up prices, owing largely to Home support. Sicoureds are likewise very firm. Closing letter next week.

J. 4 scoured crossbred crutchings 52d. Here, again, was a capital clip, iD which. Bradford buyers made their influence felt. A wellgrow.n clip, all the qualities being likewise very good. The market to-day is practically a facsimile of last week, although to-day there is hardly as much new business passing as many could wish to see. Bradford certainly is quieter op the surface, but that is all, and the one or two disappointing markets we have had must not be construed as being an indication of weakness. Weakness there is none, unless it be in medium and coarse crossbreds, which spinners are wanting to buy at a farthing less, but as for anything fine, the situation is as sound as a bell of brass. The- market is considering seriously the big weight of crossbreds that is in sight, and some big users cannot see how prices can be maintained, but little allowance has as yet been made for the increased consumption of crossbreds and the eubstitution which is certain to be adopted if merinos continue to advance. Merinos must be described as sound, and coarse wools steady. The following table shows the course of prices during the past month, the figures in the last column being the general asking prices of merchants today : —
