Mr R. Chi-holm ha-> definitely decided to be a candidate for the City at the approaching general election.

Mr W. C. Buchanan has dofrnitcly decided to oppose Mr Hornsby for the Wairarapa seat at the forthcoming election.

Mr Charles Leech, a prominent member of the Farmers' Union, has decided to contest the Egmont seat.

Our Wakatipu correspondent wires that Mr R. B. Rop.a, stationmaster, Southland, has announced himself as a candidate for Wakatipu at the forthcoming general election. Mr J. W. Kelly and Mr Horn (storekeeper, Bannoekburn) are also mentioned as likely candidates. It is understoon that the three gentlemen named are supporters of the Government.

The Oamaru mail states that Mr H. B. Crawford has definitely decided not to stand for Parliament at the coming election.

The contest for Hawera promisee to be a straightout fight between Mr M'Guire (the sitting member) and Mr Major (ex-mayor of the borough).

Mr Laurence Herdman (telegraphs our 'Wellington correspondent) has definitely decided to contest th© Mount Ida. seat as an Independent candidate. Mr Herdman, who has already worked up a good legal business in Wellington, is very well' known, and waa very popular in the Mount Ida district. He was Mayor of Naseby for three year 3 in succession, and if he is elected his continual presence at the seat of Government should be of considerable advantage to hi 1 * constituents. Mr Thop. Mackenzie tells me he has an excellent chance of winning the Beat.

Mr Thos. Mackenzie on Thursday despatched the following telegram to Mr Herdman : — ''Thanks for telegram. I sincerely wish you every ricccss. Have definitely decided io contest the Waikouaiti scat. Figures show Waikouaiti rnkop double thf number of the "Waihemo population that Mount Ida receives. My duty, therefore, is clear. With the sincercst regret I part from the Maniototo electors of Waihemo."
