the English Derby was insti ljuted no less than 122 years ago. only eight snare* have l>een successful during that period in producing two winners of that Jfcime-honoured contest. In New Zealand the following mares have produced two winners W>f the C.J.C. Derby. Waimea produced Papapa, who won in 1873, and Manuka, Who won in 1869 ; Emma produced Scan«l*l r.ad Emmeline; Brunette produced hTadmor and Daniel O'Rourke; No Name produced Disowned and Oudeis ; Ida'ia proeduced Sir Modred and Cheviot •, and Forma '{produced Uniform and Multiform. This Snakes six mares who have produced two Winners of the C.J.C Derby since its institution in 1360. The following is a list of «he mares who have produced two winners tof the English Derby: — li Fryer, by Sweetbriar, dam of Squirrel, -foaled in 1787 RhadaDianthus, by Justice, who i-vron the Blue Eibbon in 1790, and in 1791 produced Daedalus, by Justice, who won in 1794. ■■Both were bred by Lord Groavenor, and won 'on bis name. »»>A mare, by Highflyer, dam by Engineer, foaled in 1792 Spread Eagle, by Volunteer, the ' ,-winner in 1795, and in 1793 foaled Didelot, by .Trumpator, the winner in 1796. Both were Tared by Sir F. Standish, and won in his name. >> Horatia-, by Eclipse, dam Countess, by Blank, ioaled in 1706 Archduke, by Sit Peter, who •won in 1799, and m 1803 foaled Paris, by Sir Peter. Archduke was bred by Sir F. Standish, 'and won in his name, while Paris, who was bred by Sir F. Standish, won in the name of
liord Foley. Ar.eth.usa, by Dungannon, dam by Prophet, foaled in 1800 Ditto, by Sir Peter, who won in JBO3, and in 1805 foaled Pan, by St. George, the -winner in 1808. Ditto and Pan were bred by Sir H. Williamson, and won in his name. Penelope, by Trumpator. dam Prunella, by Highflyer, foaled m 1807 Whalebone, by Waxy, ,the winner in 1810, and in 1812 foaled Whisker. hy Wax?', the winner in 1815. Both were bred by and ran in the name of the Duke of Grafton. The Canopus Mare, dam by YouDg Woodpecker, foaled in 1823 Lapdog, by Whalebone, who won in 1826, and in 1828 foaled Spaniel, by Whalebone, the winneT in 1831. Both were bred and owned by Lord Egrernont.
Arcofc Lass, W Ardros3an, dam by Cramplington, foaled in 1829 St Gilos, by Tramp, the winner in 1831, and in 1836 Bloemshury, by Mulatto. The former was bred by and won for Mr Rjsdale, the latter bred by and won for Mr ,\V. Risdale. Emma, by Whisker, dam Gibside Fairy, by
Hermes, foaled m 1832 Murdig. by Catton, who
,won in 1835, and in 1810 fcalcd Cotherstone, , by Touchstone. Both were bred by Mr Bowes, find ran in his name. Cotberston elso won the Two Thousand Gmnea3 in 1843. ■ Peredita 11, by Hampton, dam Hermione, by 3Tcung Melbourne, foaled in 1893 Persimmon,
Simon, the winner in 189G, and who also
■won the St. Zieger in 18S6, and in 1837 foaled < Diamond Jubilee, by St. Simon, who won in 1900 the Derby, iv addition to the Two Thousand Guineas and St. Leger. Both were bred by his Majesty, King Edward VII, then the Prince of Wales. Morganette. by Springfield, dam Lady Morgan, by Thormanby, foalc-d in 1894 Galtee More, by Kendal. who won iv 1897 the Derby, Two Thousand Gurioas, and St. Leger. and 111 1899 Ard Patrick, by St. Florian, the winner in 1902, and both were bred and raced by Mr Gubbins.
